St. Stephen Karimboni Outstation of Marafa Catholic Parish is the smallest Outstation in the Catholic Diocese of Malindi found some 61 kilometres from Malindi town to the North-West in Magarini Constituency. With only 11 members: 4 adults and 7 youth and baby 'Antony', the outstation is made up of only a handful of Catholic faithful who are thirsty for the Word of God.
Since the foundation stone was laid by the Late Bishop Emmanuel Barbara, the outstation has never had Mass celebrated by a Bishop. Today was a special day. Given that majority of Church-goers who form part of the student population are now back to school, St. Stephen has a strong choir made up of only four members with no voice distinctions, but still can praise and worship with songs and gospel praises. Today's Mass was also an honour given that the Church is planning to construct a house to host a priest and at least two guest rooms in order to bring services closer to the congregation. Members had agreed to contribute ten building blocks per household. The Bishop had himself pledged to contribute a total of 725 blocks at a cost of Ksh 35 per block = Ksh. 25,375. To effect, a cheque was thus issued today to honour this pledge. Every church member including children have honored their pledges as promised during his first pastoral visit mid last year. Mass started at 10:30 am with hopes that more worshippers would walk in only to conclude with same number of members. The outstations also has a model church forest which was launched in March last year in Mida mission in Watamu Deanery, a process to be replicated in other parishes in the Diocese.
