BRIEF HISTORY OF LAMU PARISH
Lamu parish/Mary mother of jesus lamu parish, forms part of Catholic Diocese of malindi, lamu deanery, and is found in lamu island. It was started in 1974 by first bishop of malindi diocese, late rev bishop Francis baldachino. It's bordered by hindi parish and mpeketoni parish. It's the only Catholic parish in entire island as it's predominatly habited by Muslim community. Lamu parish has two outstation, that's manda maweni and lamu port, and has approximately 300 faithful forming part of six small Christian communities.
