SHORT HISTORY OF ST. ANTHONY CATHEDRAL
St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral Malindi, was declared a Cathedral on the 2 nd of June 2000 with
the creation of the Catholic Diocese of Malindi curved from the Arch Diocese of Mombasa and
Garisa Dioceses. Historically, the first Baptism in this Parish was celebrated in 1953 with the
number of Christians growing gradually to 7,282 today with the parish’s motto “manne vobiscum
domine.” The Cathedral now has 6 outstations, St. Bakita-Mtangani Prisons, Christ the King-
Kibokoni, St. Mary Queen of Angels-Kipangajeni, St. Joseph the worker- Katsangani and St.
Teresia- Maweni, St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral.
The Parish is structured with Parish Council, Finance Committee, Development Committee,
Harambee Committee. There are four Diocesan Priest led by Fr. Malasi the Parish Priest assisted
by Fr. Joseph Wesonga. We have also the presence of three religious congregations namely;
Sisters of St. Joseph of Mombasa, Mary Mother of God Mombasa, and Missionary Sisters of Our
Lady of Africa (MSOLA). The parish has various groups namely; Catholic Men Association
(CMA), Catholic Women Association (CWA), Charismatic Renewal, Pontifical Missionary
Children (PMC), Sacred Heart, Wanamaria, Youth, Choirs, Charity from the Heart, Liturgy,
Child Protection and Altar Servers. The parish has 2 kindergartens and 4 catholic sponsored
schools namely; Central Primary School, Kibokoni Primary School, Kipangajeni Primary School
and Burangi Primary School.
