The disturbing rise in femicide cases across Kenya has drawn widespread condemnation and concerns from various sectors of society. The latest statistics paint an alarming picture of the growing violence against women, with femicide becoming a more frequent occurrence in the country.

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) recently met with member of the press to express their deep concern over the surge in murders of women. In a strongly worded statement, the bishops called for immediate intervention to address the systemic issues contributing to the killings. ‘’we also decry the increasing murder of women. This has caused great consternation, anger and disgust,’’ the bishops said.

‘’The government must protect the life of every human person in Kenya, quoting, Cf. Constitution of the Republic of Kenya, Article 26. It must take lead in following the law, which the leadership took an oath to uphold and defend all times.’’  The Bishops also insisted.

The issue of femicide has sparked widespread public outrage and demands for stronger legal measurers to combat gender based violence. Women rights activists have echoed the bishops concerns, urging the government to implement and enforce laws that protect women from violence.
