On Tuesday, February 18th, 2025, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Bishop Willybard Lagho, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Malindi, had the honor of hosting His Excellency Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio (Vatican Ambassador to Kenya), at the construction site of the Stella Maris Pastoral Center in Watamu. The visit marked a significant moment for the local Catholic community, highlighting the Vatican's continued commitment to supporting pastoral and sustainability initiatives in the Malindi Diocese.
Bishop Willybard warmly received His Excellency in Watamu. The visit included a tour of the under-construction pastoral center, interactions with the community, and discussions on the role of the Church in promoting spiritual growth and social development.
Once completed, the Stella Maris Pastoral Center will play a crucial role in addressing the diocese's spiritual and social needs. It will provide a venue for retreats, religious formation, and community engagement, aligning with the broader mission of the Catholic Church in Kenya.
The visit of the Apostolic Nuncio was a source of great encouragement and inspiration, strengthening the bond between the Vatican and the local Church. On behalf of the entire diocese, Bishop Willybard expressed gratitude for the visit and pledged to continue working toward the growth of the Church in Malindi.
This visit has left a lasting impression on the Malindi Diocese, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to fostering faith, service, and unity within the community.
